I'll post the original song by System of a Down below, but this lyric-less bardcore version is pretty bardass.
Life is a waterfall
We're one in the river
And one again after the fall
I talked about the river in my post where I outlined how Tom Sawyer by Rush was about Christ (shut up). I elaborated in depth there, but in brief, the river is the analogy of what we in western monotheism call heaven. It is bathing in the electric life force that sustains us, that is us, since who we actually are (spirits, in most religions) is composed of the same substance as the river.
Life is the waterfall where the water breaks apart. It is a rush, a fall, and a great crash. When it's all over, after death, when we're finally back in the river again, we look back and say, "Wow, what a fucking rush, man... wanna do it again?"
Swimming through the void
We hear the word
We lose ourselves
But we find it all?
Oh boy. The void. Yeah. It's dark and cold and scary. It's what separates us in the material world from home, the river, the spiritual world. It is too vast for any one to cross on their own.
We hear the word. The logos. The Bible calls it Christ. The Bible, like all things, is both true and symbolic. Christ is real. And also symbolic. The images we create in our mind (dear Lord, the blue eyed, white guy... really?!) are such a farce. Christ is an embodiment of Spirit. But we cling to The Thing We Know For Sure Is Definitely True And You Can't Tell Me Otherwise. Ok, I get it. I've done it, too. We all have.
We lose ourselves, here in this thing called life. We forget who we are. I mean, who we really are. But this intentional amnesia and the game of trying to remember, of searching for deeper purpose and meaning while struggling through the ignorance... that is the whole point of it all. That is why we do it in the first place, because it is what we find in this path and in this discovery that makes all the pain and anguish worthwhile on a cosmic scale, not to mention the love we bear to one another in all the tender moments and all the tragic moments.
'Cause we are the ones that want to play
Always want to go
But you never want to stay
We are the ones that want to play. We are the angels and the demons and the aliens and spirits. There is no other. It is only us. And we come here to play this gruesome, terrifying game, but it is only a game. Back home, it is too perfect and wonderful. We want to join all the fun down here. Until we are here and forget ourselves and long for nothing more but to return. We never want to stay.
And we are the ones that want to choose
Always want to play
But you never want to lose
Pretty much the same thing, except that we chose this. There is no one to blame. We asked for this! We said, "Can I please jump in next game?" And the Ascended Masters who had played this game too much to get anything out of it, who have moved on to other games in other realms and only now supervise this one, said, "Sure, but I cannot guarantee you will like the life you will get. Let me look into your soul and see what will help you grow. Do you still want to play?"
And we never want to lose. There is more than one meaning to this...
Aerials in the sky
When you lose small mind
You free your life
As mentioned, we are the aerials in the sky, whatever you call us. The angels, the demons, the spirits, the aliens. These are just small boxes that cannot really contain the full truth. These are just myths like any other that do their best to make sense of what we, in our tiny human lives, have a hard time understanding, or in this case, remembering.
Your ego is your small mind. It is all of your attachments to this world and to this sense of who you are as this person, this body, this mind, this personality, career, family, material possessions, and so on. You inhabit this temporarily, but this is not you. You, the real you, is deeper and greater, and eternal, unlike the ephemeral person you think you are. When you lose this small mind, this ego, you free your life*.

Life is a waterfall
We drink from the river
Then we turn around and put up our walls
Already discussed the waterfall and river. We drink from the river here, too. We drink together from the same cup, the same Source. So what's all the fighting about?
You see, we're actually not here. Yup. You're not actually here. Your spirit actually is back home, right now, this moment. You're connected to it, but you're probably just not aware of it. Most of us wake up to it in varying degrees in our sleep. Some are fully lucid and cognizant. And some others still can maintain an awareness there even while awake here.
The point of this stanza, though, is that we all come from the same river in heaven. We bath and live in it, swim in it, share in its glory together. But then we come here and put up our personal walls, shutting people out. Pushing people away. Putting people down. Being fake with ourselves. Being fake with others.
We create a fake persona called the ego, and because of our broken heart of being homesick, though we don't really realize it, we try to compensate by doing anything we can to inflate and elevate that ego. Most of us do, anyway. And some are far better at it than others. These are the walls we put up, even though we were just practically One. And in the blink of a cosmic eye we will be One again and look back and laugh and go, "Oh my god, that was so silly of me".
Swimming through the void
We hear the word
We lose ourselves
But we find it all?
This has all been covered.
'Cause we are the ones that want to play
Always want to go
But you never want to stay
This has all been covered. Didn't I just write that?
And we are the ones that want to choose
Always want to play
But you never want to lose
This has all been covered. Didn't I just--hey, wait a minute, now!
Aerials in the sky
When you lose small mind
You free your life
Aerials so up high
When you free your eyes
Eternal prize
Aerials in the sky
When you lose small mind
You free your life
Aerials so up high
When you free your eyes
Eternal prize
Ah, now here's something. Psst, come here. No, come heeeeere. Closer. Wanna know what the eternal prize is? Hint: the answer is both heaven, and has nothing to do with whether or not you spend an eternity in heaven or hell. Need a hint? Look up. (Not with your eyes, silly.)
