Dancing with the Stars

There once was an angel who appeared to a boy.  She said, "Dear boy, you are pure in heart, so we come to you to solve a problem for us.  You see, there actually is a limit to the number of angels who can dance on the head of a pin".

She continued, "We are now overcrowded and cannot agree among ourselves who should go and who should stay.  As you might imagine, this is impossible to get unanimous consent".

"So we have chosen you, a child pure in heart, to decide who among us will stay or come inside to the warmth."

"... and who among us will go or stay outside in the cold".

"That's easy," he said.  "All of the haters and the liars and the hypocrites, all of the close-minded and intolerant and manipulators and abusers and exploiters and controllers, and all of those who make life unbearable for the rest of us; they will go outside and everyone else stays or comes inside".

"Dear, silly boy," said the angel.  "Perhaps you misunderstood.  We meant the heathens and perverts and radicals and artists and anyone else who is abnormal.  That is the only prescription for an orderly, quiet society".

"That is the prescription for a sterile, static, boring society where singing and dancing are forbidden, diversity is stifled and fun outlawed.  No, I choose the industrious and the entrepreneurs and the faithful and the the creative all equally, but only among them who are open-minded and accepting and kind and fair.  The rest... they know where they're going".

The angel, suddenly realizing she might now also be at risk, that all those who assumed they were safe might not be, hurried back to warn the others.
