To compensate for the mounting debt and negative cash flow, the company was late paying employees and vendors. They broke contracts and bullied their way using lawyers and the courts out of paying their obligations, or at least reducing or delaying them. This earned them a bad reputation and many enemies.

When the bad reputation finally caught up to the company in a town, they would intentionally demolish their most expensive building and fraudulently claim the insurance. Then they would move on to the next town where they could start over with a clean reputation. They did this tim after tim, moving from town to town like testicular cancer.
One day, after they had mounted too much debt and created too many enemies in one town, they decided to demolish the most expensive building they had raised.
Not so fast! This tim, the district attorney had caught on to their scheme, their con game, and caught them in the act, red handed. They were arrested and their funds were seized. They were all tried, convicted, and thrown in jail. All of the victims were paid restitution with the funds seized.

The victims could never be fully be restored, but it was the best possible outcome given the horrible circumstances. And the long sentences the family served was an example for all others not to repeat the same mistakes.
