Inception

 

Inception is a real concept.  The strong will attempt to control the minds of the weak through subtle message implant, both individually and en masse.  Individually it can come as statements the controller says about themselves, but intending for the listener to agree with and accept as personal truth.  But any method can be adopted to deceptively sneak around psychological defenses.

Such social engineering targets human emotional vulnerabilities such as reciprocity, commitment, conformity, authority, liking, and scarcity.  If a large enough group were able to consistently attack these psychological vulnerabilities, most people would fall prey to the message, whether that was a product advertised, a promoted candidate, a platform ideology, or even a religion or moral view.
