There once was a boy who lived in a magical kingdom. He left home at the age of 14 to find his own destiny, for his family was quite forceful about who they insisted he should be, and he did not very much care for that.
The boy walked along a dirt road. He stumbled many times and had much help. Sometimes it was assistance sent by his family, unbeknownst to him at the time, who were still following him in the hopes of steering his path. Other times it was simply strangers who wished him well. But sometimes bandits robbed him or tricked him into committing petty crimes, which sent the sheriffs after him.
After 42 days he came upon a fork in the road.

At the intersection was a troll who said, "Which way to go you must choose. To the right, you face a fierce griffon. It was once good, but became drunk with power and turned evil. Defeat him and you become it, king of that land."

The troll continued, "To the left is the foulest of dragons that has terrorized the lands for eternity. Defeat it and you become it, king of that land".

The boy looked at the ugly troll and said, "No."
The troll was outraged. "You cannot say no! These paths have been built here long ago, they have been here eons. This is the only way. You must choose."
The boy looked at the ugly troll and said, "No."
The boy proceeded past the troll and through the woods between the two paths, forging his own destiny.
